whoops! I’ve been a bit M.I.A. lately, so sorry! Funny how the world looks at you different once you start dating! My 1st (and hopefully last) date from match.com ended up being pretty much the best experience I could have asked for. I’m still seeing the guy, and ironically I have been repelling all of the crazy single girl stigmas that have been plaguing me since I moved. Good for me, bad for my blog…. :( I don’t want to jinx it or anything but so far so good. All of my friends who have done the online dating are calling me out on being a hypocrite for knocking the online dating scene, and I can’t argue!

So my next dilemma… I’ve been here 4 months and the only friends I have are over 50 and work in my office. How the hell do you meet working 20 somethings in a new town?! I’m in a Zumba class but it’s small and many older women, my town is pretty limited for other activities offered after 5 pm, SO not conducive to the young working woman. What do I do?? I need some girlfriends around!

So I ordered a gift for a friend’s birthday online awhile ago, and the only place I could find what I was looking for was on a bridal gift website. So I get the gift (I won’t say what in case she reads this post!) and receive it in the mail today. I excitedly open up the box to check it out and enclosed is a card in an envelope with my name handwritten. Strange I thought… I open up the card and this is what I find.

oh.my.god. I about died because of course this would happen to me!! I mean this is sweet and all if you are, but wow. I think I walked right into this one though… oops. Note to self, don’t shop on bridal gift websites, people get the wrong impression. oi.

So everyone seems to have a person in their life that constantly produces gem quotes. For me, it’s my 87 year old grandma. After spending most of the week with her this week, I could write a book. Here are some of the winners.

(walking into a casino, hearing the slots) “It’s like music to my ears!”

“When I was younger, I could finish a case of beer!”- “Grandma, what do you consider a ‘case’?” -”Well… a 12 pack split between me and Al, he drank most of them.”

“Are you dating Sarah? If you are, you should wear your glasses on a date. Then you look more sophisticated.”

“A bearded man just walked in… is that Santa Claus?!?”

“I’m always hot, I’m a hottie!”

“The only good thing about the good ol days was 10 cent beer”

(In reference to me and my cousin in our pjs) “I told Ed there were two scantily clad girls in my room, he may stop by”

(points to the embroidered butterfly logo on the bottom of my tank top) “That’s sexy!!”

(I burp, but hold it in, Grandma stops her walker, and stares up at the ceiling confused) “Are people moving chairs around upstairs??”

“OH! I have a candy bar in my pocket!”

“I hope your mom didn’t get hiney. That’s what I call the H1N1!”

“I keep my booze in the bathroom.”

(Scoots her seat up in my car, squishing herself with the seatbelt) “AHH I can’t breathe!!”

She also asked me about 5 times if I was dating. I failed to mention match.com. I’ve taken a week off and nothing life changing has happened yet, still waiting for someone who doesn’t make me cringe! Ok I know, I’m going to hell for saying that

So how soon is too soon to give up on match.com??? It’s been 2 days and I’m already exhausted, I’ve gotten plenty of winks, messages, and profile views and have yet to not cringe at the pic or profile of said winker. I know this makes me sound completely shallow, but really people, how hard is it to take a decent picture and write a normal ‘about me’. Is it so much to ask to find a decent normal man? I think so… I may be too picky but I’d rather be single than settle. Oi.

I did it. I caved in thanks to the persistence of my friend Jackee. I can’t believe it but I signed up for match.com. I couldn’t do a 6 month commitment so I did the one month deal, and thus far I am not impressed with all the toohotforu49s, but I’ll be open minded… for now… hm.

Any advice, tips or tricks for online dating??

So today I went to get my hair done, and my stylist asked me the usual get to know you questions, and the convo went a little like this:

“So is it just you?”

-Yup just me

“You moved out here all by yourself???”

-Yeah, I have family around though

“So you have an apartment or…?”

-Yes I have an apartment, I love it!

*long pause* “…………….. by yourself???”

-Yes

Is it that shocking, really?

In matchmaking news, the other day at lunch the conversation turned to a wedding someone was attending this weekend. One of the ladies from the office mentioned that I “need to get on that”. hmmm right.

Talk of the town

Being in the midwest and working for a close knit company, everyone is interested in everyone else’s business. Recently I found out that people were talking about a “guy they didn’t recognize” who got into my car with me the other day. And of course curiosity was peaked… Is Sarah dating someone?? Who was that?? What’s going on?

Well unfortunately I have not found my soulmate in the 2 months I’ve been here. The wedding invitations are not getting sent out anytime soon, and I’m still single. The mystery man was my brother who was in town for a visit. Disappointing, I know. I had a good laugh about it though.

The other night my uncle did ask all of his dinner guests if they knew any single 20-something men available for me to date…. let’s get the word out.

So today at work I got a phone call from a company asking for my e-mail address because my co-worker had given them the wrong one. Apparently she had my company name as my last name in my e-mail address instead of my actual last name. I corrected her and she says- “Oh, he must have forgotten that you got married!” Uh, no lady, he just got my e-mail address wrong, no marriage.

In other work news, men are hilarious. I work with pretty much all men, and whenever customers (99% of them men) come into the office, I love to see their reactions as they walk by my corner office. Most a) don’t expect to see a woman, and b) don’t expect to see a young, blonde haired blue eyed woman. I get a lot of double takes (not because I’m stunningly beautiful by any means), puzzled looks, and I witness many little things men do when they think women aren’t watching. I get a good laugh out of it and it keeps me entertained throughout the day.
